The Ultimate Guide to Choosing Seat Covers for Your Chery Tiggo

Let's be honest...

One of the best things about buying a new car is how fresh everything feels. The seats are spotless, the interior looks amazing, and you want to keep it that way.

That's exactly how we felt when Nicole bought her Tiggo. We knew from experience that everyday life - kids, dogs, spills, beach trips and even daily wear - can quickly take the shine off a brand-new interior.

Protecting your seats from day one is much easier than trying to repair or replace them later.

So... which seat covers should you buy?

This is where most people get stuck.

Jump on Google or Facebook and you'll find hundreds of options.

Universal.

Custom fit.

Neoprene.

Leather.

Canvas.

Cheap ones.

Expensive ones.

Everyone claims theirs are "the best."

The truth is...

Not all seat covers are created equal.

Here are the things we'd consider before buying any seat covers
1. Custom fit vs universal seat covers Plus

This is probably the biggest difference.

Universal seat covers are designed to fit as many vehicles as possible.

That usually means compromising somewhere.

Loose fabric.

Movement.

Poor access to seat controls.

Lack of airbag compatibility.

A finish that simply doesn't look like it belongs.

Custom-fit seat covers are designed specifically around one vehicle.

But here's something most people don't realise...

Not all "custom-fit" seat covers are actually created the same.

Some companies simply use factory drawings or overseas templates.

Others physically measure the vehicle and test-fit multiple prototypes before production.

That extra development is what separates an okay fit from one that genuinely looks factory.

2. Airbag compatibility matters more than most people realise Plus

This is probably the most overlooked part of buying seat covers.

Modern vehicles use side airbags built into the seats.

That means the seat cover needs to allow those airbags to deploy correctly.

But here's another detail that's often missed.

Australian-delivered vehicles can have a different airbag configuration to overseas models.

For example, on Australian-delivered Chery vehicles, the driver's seat requires airbag-compatible seams on both sides.

That's not always the case in overseas markets.

When buying seat covers, ask:

  • Are they airbag compatible?
  • Are they designed for Australian-delivered vehicles?
  • Do the airbag seams match my vehicle?
3. Not all neoprene feels the same Plus

One of the biggest myths is:

"Neoprene seat covers are hot."

Sometimes that's true.

Traditional neoprene without ventilation can trap heat.

That's why it's worth looking for perforated or breathable neoprene, which allows much better airflow while still providing the water resistance and durability neoprene is known for.

Comfort matters just as much as protection, especially if you're driving every day.

4. Think about the little features Plus

These are the things people often don't think about until after they've bought seat covers.

Can you still use:

  • Heated seats?
  • ISOFIX?
  • Rear armrest?
  • Seat storage pockets?
  • Seatbelt access?
  • Child seat anchor points?

Good seat covers should work with your vehicle, not against it.

5. Choose seat covers designed for your lifestyle Plus

Everyone uses their car differently.

Maybe it's:

  • School runs
  • Dogs
  • Camping
  • Beach trips
  • Work
  • Road trips

Think about what your seats actually need protecting from.

For most people, a durable, water-resistant material that's easy to wipe clean makes everyday life much easier.

So... what did we end up choosing?

When Nicole bought her Tiggo, we went looking for seat covers ourselves.

While there were plenty of options available overseas, the choices here in Australia were limited.

The higher-quality custom-fit options were often made to order with long lead times, while others charged extra for features we'd expect to come standard, like rear storage pockets or armrest access.

Many of the overseas options claimed to fit our vehicles, but customer reviews often suggested otherwise. Most weren't airbag compatible, and we personally weren't keen on the idea of using universal seat covers in a brand-new car.

So, we decided to develop our own.

Using our own vehicles, we physically measured the seats, refined the fit through testing here in Brisbane, and created a complete package with the features we wanted from the start - including a true custom fit, airbag-compatible seams designed for Australian-delivered vehicles, breathable perforated neoprene, and practical inclusions like storage pockets and armrest access.

Why ours tick the boxes
